Dr. Jack Cochran is a Senior Consultant with The Hayes Group, specializing in executive coaching, leadership development, and healthcare strategy. With extensive experience as a senior leader in healthcare, Dr. Cochran has worked with executives across various sectors, helping them develop leadership skills, build high-performing teams, and implement strategic change. His work focuses on enhancing the leadership capabilities of senior executives, with a particular emphasis on creating positive organizational cultures and fostering collaboration.
Dr. Cochran’s career began as a private practicing plastic and reconstructive surgeon before transitioning into leadership roles within Kaiser Permanente. He served as President and Executive Medical Director of the Colorado Permanente Medical Group from 1998 to 2007, helping lead the organization to become a national model in healthcare. As Executive Director of The Permanente Federation, he led a network of 21,000 physicians across eight regional medical groups, serving over 11 million members. Under his leadership, Kaiser Permanente became a recognized leader in the successful deployment of electronic health records—an achievement that was the largest civilian rollout of its kind in the U.S.
Beyond his executive roles, Dr. Cochran has worked with national leaders to shape healthcare policy. He consulted with the White House and Congress, played a key role in drafting the Wyden-Bennet bill, and worked alongside leaders of the Mayo Clinic and Intermountain Health Care to address the nation’s healthcare challenges. He also testified before Congressional committees and participated in discussions with the National Governor’s Association.
Dr. Cochran is the author of two books, The Doctor Crisis and Healer, Leader, Partner, which provide valuable lessons on developing confident, compassionate leaders. Recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the Top 50 U.S. Physician Leaders, Dr. Cochran now works as a speaker and coach, bringing his expertise to organizations across industries.
